In Her Own Words
THE PAST
I had just turned 15 when I arrived in New York City
from Colombia S.A. To ease our transition from Colombia to the 'wilds' of New York, my parents settled in Farmingdale, Long
Island, which at that time was rural and largely farm land. My parents were only the third Latin family to settle in the area. While they were acclimating themselves to their new home, my two younger brothers and I were making our presence known in the local school district.
To my dismay it was different; very different from where I left. The first shock was the weather; ugh! It was cold!
And then there was the language barrier. Yes, I had been tutored in English before my arrival and I could understand what people were saying, but I was scared to death! I thought that mispronouncing any new word would be an embarrassment. I fell silent. It took me almost six months to hear my voice again. It was the most incredible feeling to speak English and feel part of my new community.
I went on to complete my public schooling, and then graduated college. Before settling into my present career, I wore several different career hats. It was my parents drive and tenacity that made me appreciate that we truly are in charge of our own destinies.
THE PRESENT
Currently, I am the President and owner of ICN, which I founded over a dozen years ago. Since then I have grown, both personally and professionally. Personally, I have been lucky enough to travel the world, learning a great deal about other people's ideals and perspectives. This has facilitated my professional interactions and relationships with customers, vendors and my family of employees.
My belief that it is all in the details continues to guide the growth of my business.
THE FUTURE
In the near term, I will continue to grow ICN, adapting our corporate model and structure to meet the ever changing demands of today's rapidly changing business environment.
Just as I adapted to the changes in my personal life, I look forward to guiding ICN from our New York City headquarters as we move forward and continue to innovate to meet the challenges we are sure to face in the coming years.
David Handler, the Vice President and Co-Founder of International Courier Network (ICN), directs the Company's financial and Administrative operations. Each day, David executes a single and successful corporate strategy: Maximize revenues from each of ICN's services. Minimize operating costs. Share the savings with your customers by providing businesses with global, competitively priced shipping and distribution solutions.
Before co-founding ICN in 1991 with President Shawnay Pacheco, David was the Director of Sales for CSG Enterprises, a courier and delivery solutions company based in New York City. Prior to his work with CSG, David served as the National Manager of Inter-Post, a global delivery services company specializing in mail distribution to Asian, Latin American and Caribbean markets. David established Inter-Posts's Asian and Latin American offices and managed the company's human resources and business operations.
David contributes his extensive financial, operations and customer acquisition experience to many key industry associations. He is a member of the Mail Systems Management Association (New York Chapter) and of the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce. A proud graduate of Baruch College, David resides in New York City.
